While I am not usually an Awards Show junkie, I can never help but to watch the celebrities walk the Red Carpet before the event. The Oscar’s last night were no exception: I tuned it to watch the Red Carpet, and turned the television off when the awards portion of the evening commenced. I still have yet to figure out this odd habit of mine, but the best explanation I have is the simple desire to see the celebrities all dressed up and looking fabulous. The 84th Academy Awards showcased a number of different designers. A few celebrities stepped up to the plate and looked absolutely stunning, while others just left me a little confused about their choice in stylists.

First for the best of the night:

1.      Michelle Williams in Louis Vuitton

Like every young girl in the 90s, I loved Michelle Williams for her role in Dawson’s Creek. Last night, I fell in love with her again for her choice in attire. This coral Louis Vuitton dress was absolutely breathtaking. The bright color looked great against her pale complexion, and the pink clutch stood out against the coral backdrop. I really wish I could’ve seen the shoes Michelle was wearing (I’m a bit of a shoe addict), but overall she looked incredible. This dress was a really good choice on her part.

2.      Gwyneth Paltrow in Tom Ford

This dress was definitely a risk on Gwyneth’s part. It had the ability to either be spectacular or terrible, and she wore it fabulously. I absolutely love the oyster color on her. I’m definitely thinking about adding a dress in a similar color to my wardrobe this spring. Gwyneth took a calculated risk and pulled it off with the grace we have come to expect of her.

3.      Emma Stone in Giambattista Valli Haute Couture

I don’t know what it is about this girl, but Emma Stone always manages to shine above the rest. She is a uniquely beautiful girl, and her red hair only amplifies the color of the dress. Very few young women sport the high neckline, but she has demonstrated how to pull it off perfectly.

This is the part where things go from stunning to “what was she thinking?” very quickly.

1.      Sandra Bullock in Marchesa

This dress is not an ugly dress by any means, but it just looked terrible on Sandra. The top did not amplify her silhouette and it’s a little frumpy in the midsection. The dress just kind of aged her a bit. It just did not work at all for the Academy Awards. I highly suggest that she finds another stylist ASAP!

2. Stacey Keibler in Marchesa

She is a gorgeous girl, but the dress made her look like an Oscar statuette. The material is way too shiny and it definitely detracts from the important part: her beauty.

3. Angelina Jolie in Atelier Versace

This dress had a huge opportunity to be fabulous. On Angelina’s light skin, it would have popped in all of the right places and drawn attention to her. The velvet was gorgeous and her physique is incredible, this dress just didn’t do it for me. I was not a fan of the high cut up. The flash of leg has the ability to be incredibly sexy; this is just neither the dress nor the occasion for it.

So what did you all think about the fashion on the Red Carpet last night? Who did you think outshined all of the others?
