A few days ago, we wrote about an amazing fashion show that Ayeshah attended, at Milux Cafe. The designer that was featured in the show was Soham Dave.

I was very interested in Soham’s collection, and wanted to find out more about the brand.. I did a little research and found that Soham Dave Collections are completely Eco-Friendly, and Organic!

Not only is Soham Dave environmentally friendly, the creator of the brand, Soham, explored traditional Indian skills including hand embroidery, hand block printing and hand weaving, and creatively applied them into creating contemporary silhouettes.

Nimet Degirmencioglu, who is the brand ambassador, and Executive of Business Developement for Soham Dave, answered a few questions we had about the brand.

Ayeshah: Nimet, what inspired the “Soham Dave” collection?
soham is inspired by nature , his artisans and his conscious customers. He designs timeless styles in the most eco friendly way possible.

Ayeshah: How long has the brand exhisted/ how long has Soham been designing?
This is our 2nd collection . Soham has studied National institute of Fashion Technology in India and in Newyork / He has been working with local atisans since then.

Ayeshah:  I love the combination of eco-friendly material with high fashion, was it difficult for Soham to find fabrics that were true to both fashion and environment?
Soham has been experimenting with the natural dyes and ecofriendly processes and keep them in center of his inspiration. Every piece is designed as ecofriendly as possible, and we believe it is very important to know for our eco conscious designers where the fabrics are coming from.

Ayeshah: We are truly inspired by the brand, if you could give a little bit of friendly advice to up and coming independent designers, what would you say?
Soham has been looking for the inspiration in the nature and believes that each designer can be sustainable as long as they know how to look and inspire from nature…

Ayeshah: In the future, what can we expect from Soham Dave?
Soham promotes fair trade and social communities. in the future Soham would like to introduce the traditional crafts to a wider audience and support and improve the lives of the local women artisans .
