This past sunday, January 15th, JO7A held the very first meet and greet of the year.
It was bright and early, and Ayeshah had everyone glued to their seats as she introduced our business plan to our designers, with her fabulous powerpoint presentation. We were there to answer questions that the designers had, and go a little more in depth about
the path we are taking to expand our designers’ businesses. All in all, it was an amazing day. HUGE thank you, to John Steel, an amazing photographer from JFAPhoto, who took time out of his day, to come and shoot our meet.
I am very proud of how well we’re doing. Everyday I smile when I open my email and see that a new designer has requested to join our group. Collectively, we will all be on top of the fashion industry in no time.
Ayeshah and I spoke to the designers about our plans and resources we will be providing on the launch of our interactive designer resource center, here on ourwebsite, justoff7thave.com. We went into detail about the type of services we will be providing and the importance of the resources on our site. We have been making great contacts and are getting many manufacturing companies, buyers, retailers, and wholesalers on board with us.
The designers who attended walked away with valuable information that is essential for every member of our organization. Ayeshah and I both try very hard to accommodate the rough schedules of all the designers, and when we can, we try to meet one on one as well, but at times its difficult, because we have our own jobs as well.
For those readers who are not part of JustOff7thAve! and who are interested, please do not hesitate to comment or email email@example.com for more information. We will answer all your questions.
If you’re a designer, please go too our meetup page to become part of our active organization, and to work with us for future fashion shows and events that will promote all our designers collectively. www.meetup.com/justoff7thave
We are looking forward to a great year! I’m excited in helping Robin, who is our very fabulous Aspiring Motorcycle Gear designer, start up her company! I am very interested in seeing our designer Yolanda’s new ideas about casual wear (Fooliard.com) turn into the newest fad! I can’t wait to see the new and exciting pieces that Shayla creates for little girls everywhere (shaylasfactory.com).. and as for me, I am working very hard on finalizing my shoe collection(edensluxuryshoes.com)! We can’t forget our very own Revolutionary Make Up designer, Ayeshah(makeoversbyayeshah.com)! We are just a few of the over 60 designers that show great potential and have great collections, and Ideas. I invite any and every designer, or aspiring designer to join us! Ayeshah and I really hope to see everyone, even if you are not yet part of our organization, to come see us at Pearl Studios on January 29th 2012!
On Sunday 1/29/12, we will have the very first of our series of seminars about how to become a successful independent designer. The first of the series is a seminar about finances, and how to legally start your company. Not only will we have accountants speaking to you, at the end of the day, you will walk out of there with an accountant who is near you, and will help you build your company. We will have CPAs from all areas of New York there, so you will know that if you do need a CPA, the person you chose will be close to home, therefore easier for you to communicate with! This is very important to every designer! We hope to see you there!
Back to the Meet and Greet… We had a great time. After Ayeshah’s powerpoint presentation, we all shared ideas and got to know each other better! Everyone got along great, and the energy in the room was amazing! I was glad to put faces to the names that I’ve been communicating with online.
I was, yet again the tiniest one of the bunch, but its okay. If you look to the left here is a picture of a few of us. From left to right: Sonia, who is our stylist and is helping us tremendously with our venture, Yolanda (designer, fooliard.com), ME =), Robin who is an Aspiring Motorcycle Gear Designer, Tanya (Ms.Connect and an Aspiring Evening Dress Designer), and Shayla a hair accessories designer (shaylasfactory.com).
After the meet and greet, Yolanda, Robin and Shayla came with me as I walked them through the wholesale trimmings district in midtown manhattan. We discussed the pricing of items, and how important it was to find a great wholesale supplier, to buy your necessary materials (to create your garments/accessories) from. It was cold and a bit windy, but we had a great time!
I hope to see everyone at our next meet!
